Formally established in 1934, Des Peres experienced rapid residential development, transforming the rural area into a major urban center. From 1950 to 1960, the population of Des Peres nearly tripled. In addition to new subdivisions, the area is undergoing redevelopment in existing neighborhoods, replacing older homes with new construction. 

Parkway School District and Kirkwood School District both fall in the area of Des Peres, along with several private schools. 

Various outdoor parks, a recreation center called The Lodge, and convenient shopping at West County Center make Des Peres a desirable, bustling neighborhood for families.
